Music Theory Lessons

Music theory students will learn how to read, write and understand music. They will study the rules of music and learn about musical terms and concepts such as melody, rhythm, harmony, dynamics and simple composition. Tuition is on an individual, one-to-one basis, and is charged at the same rate as singing tuition (see current fees list for details). Students have the option of studying classical music theory or a pop music oriented course.

The classical course follows the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music theory method. It leads to an optional examination at Grade 5 level
(approximately equivalent to GCSE/'O' Level). Pop Music Theory students will follow the London College of Music course, which also leads to an optional Grade 5 examination.

Theory students will be required to purchase workbooks and the accompanying text-book for their studies. Students should be prepared to devote at least one hour per week to home study in order to progress steadily.  There are no group theory lessons available.  Lessons take place at the teacher's studio in Pimlico, London SW1.
