Please note that I am based in London and I'm unable to personally recommend teachers outside London - I just don't know any!
However, here are some ideas to help you find a music teacher in your local area.
These suggestions are aimed at people in the UK; but most of these tips could be applied to people in other countries.

Incorporated Society of Musicians - approved teachers

If you live in the UK, you could contact the Incorporated Society of Musicians. The ISM has a list of approved private music teachers in all disciplines (including singing) nationwide. Most libraries keep this list too, though you may have to ask at the counter!

The ISM's contact details are
The Incorporated Society of Musicians
10 Stratford Place
London W1N 9AE
Tel. 0207 629 4413
and there is a link to their website on the links page of this site.

Music Colleges & Conservatoires

If you live near to a large city you could contact one of the music colleges or conservatoires, or university music departments for information about singing teachers. Most of the main music colleges and similar institutions should be able to give you a list. You could even call in to the colleges and place an ad on the student noticeboard for a teacher - you should get many enquiries from eager student singers looking for teaching work.

The links page of this site includes links to all the major music colleges in London, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Cardiff and Birmingham.

Other Ideas

LOCAL AUTHORITY MUSIC SERVICES

Many local authorities (city/county councils or metropolitan boroughs) run a Music Service for the area.
These services provide low cost music tuition for children and adults; they usually cover a wide range of instruments including singing. Some also run ensembles such as orchestras, chamber groups and choirs, with local performance opportunities such as concerts and competitive festivals.
Contact your local authority's education department to find out if they have a Music Service, and you can discover what is going on in your area.

COMMUNITY LISTINGS

Check your local newspaper's classified section for adverts from music teachers, under tuition.
Try library and community centre noticeboards and look in the yellow pages.
Enquire at local schools, theatres or places of worship.

INSTRUMENTAL TEACHERS

If you can't find any adverts or listings for singing teachers, it is sometimes worth contacting instrumental teachers instead (piano, flute etc), as may be able to recommend singing teachers or singers who could help you.

GOOD LUCK!!
